Best Foods To Keep Your Hair Healthy And Awesome!

Having great looking hair isn’t only about what you put onto your hair, it can also be affected by what you are putting into your body.   There are lots of benefits to eating well.  Most people do it to stay healthy and prevent diseases, or to keep their weight down.  But there are also plenty of foods out there that health experts recommend to keep your hair in great shape.

So which foods do health experts recommend and why?

1.Tomato Juice

Now, most people think of tomato juice and they think of an alcoholic cocktail but if you want to be super healthy, then ditch the alcohol and drink the straight tomato juice as an alternative to those expensive smoothies and kombucha drinks.  Tomato juice is packed full of vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6, along with minerals like magnesium, iron and phosphorous, which makes it a great all rounder for health in general.  According to Style Craze, fresh tomato juice is great for making hair shiny or treating an itchy scalp, and you can actually apply it straight to your scalp and leave in for 4-5 minutes like you would a normal conditioner.

2. Lean red meat

Dermatologist Wilma Bergfeld recommends eating lean red meat twice a week as the iron and zinc found in it help hair follicles to grow.

3. Soy products

If you’re a veggie, don’t worry, there are plenty of options for you too, soy being one of them.  As hair is primarily composed of protein, the Belgravia Centre says a soy-rich diet is great for hair growth and has been linked to prevention of baldness and hair loss.  So the next time you’re out to buy some milk, why not opt for soy milk instead of the regular dairy milk.

4. Lentils

Another great alternative to red meat is lentils.  Similar to the red meat, lentils are rich in iron and folic acid which are essential for hair growth.  And happily, lentils are super easy to cook.  As if it wasn’t great enough that these little gems will boost your hair, they are also great for healthy nails and keeping blood pressure down.

5. Eggs

According to Joy Bauer, eggs are rich in biotin, which is key to hair growth and good scalp health.  Thankfully, biotins are easy to include in your diet as they are found in not only eggs but a whole host of other foods like salmon, avocados and peanuts.

6. Salmon

Here’s a great reason to indulge in lots of sushi without feeling guilty! If you hair is looking a little dull and lackluster why not try eating some salmon.  According to WebMD, salmon is great for keeping your hair shiny and full.  If you don’t like salmon you can try other fish like mackerel and sardines.  The reason these fish are so good for shine is because they are packed full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.  Now, the key part is that the body is not able to produce these by itself so that means you need to include foods in your diet that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.  If you’re not big on fish, you can pick up a supplement instead.

Happy eating!
